Single Malt Music From The Dutch Mountains
Produced by Erwin Musper (producer, recording/mixing engineer for Van Halen, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Scorpions, Chicago, Metallica)
Album Info:
In gorgeous Waimes, a small village in the Belgian Ardennes region, VANDERLINDE recorded their seventh album. ‘Entering The Circus’ became the inevitable title. Referring to the craziness the world is finding itself in. Eighteen songs that sometimes paint a bleak outlook of our society. But also intimate confessions of unconditional love. VANDERLINDE will bear its soul again in 2019.
Although officially retired, producer Erwin Musper (David Bowie, Van Halen, Chicago, Anouk, Def Leppard), stepped up to the plate one more time to helm this inspired recording session.
Next to the regular band members Wietze Koning, Bart Schwertmann (Kayak),
Christof Bauwens and Fokke de Jong (KOTW/Normaal),
exotic elements were added by JB Meijers (Common Linnets/De Dijk),
Roel Spanjers (Normaal/Fréderique Spigt) and Dana Keller (Marvin Gaye/Stevie Wonder),
plus the exquisite sound of the “Noordpool String Quartet”.
‘Entering the circus’ takes you on a stylistic journey from the eighties (Crowded House comes to mind), the seventies of CSN&Y, even the Beatles sixties and right back to the present time of John Mayor or Jason Mraz. But every song still undeniably VANDERLINDE.
VANDERLINDE has spent a lot of time on the road in Europe over the last few years. Mostly headlining, but also in support of Fish (Marillon) and Bobby Kimball (Toto).

A note from Erwin Musper (producer, recording/mixing engineer for Van Halen, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Scorpions, Chicago, Metallica):
You close the door to your studio for the last time and turn your head to a new uncharted future. A lifelong connection to the world of music abruptly flows into a time of leisure and fond reminiscing.
No deadlines, no budget worries, just days filled with unplanned adventures. Well… that lasted until my dropbox started to fill up with prenatal musical tidbits.
First a few, but in the end about 125 pieces of very creative songwriting. Really… 125!
All from the unstoppable genius scatterbrain of my friend Arjan Vanderlinde.
Should I pick up where I left off a couple of years ago or should I hang on to my newfound other passions?
Can I do both? Is it worth it?
I kept listening to the avalanche of great melodies and there was only one correct answer.
So I rebuilt my mixing studio in my new home, half a world away and put ‘one last’ production schedule on my calendar.
This band was worth it, and they came solidly prepared. We chose 19 songs from that treasure chest and settled down in a lovely studio in the Ardennes, Belgium. It took us just minutes to get the rock ’n roll train rolling out of that station for a 14 day nonstop pleasure trip.
Back home, I started to mix the recorded tracks and when Arjan dropped by, we even did another song from scratch. Just because the guy can’t stop writing beautiful tunes. This whole time, the production did not feel like work but like a vacation with benefits. When you hear it you will feel it too. Resistance is futile. Close your eyes and enjoy the show.
