Der kanadische Gitarrenheld Steve Hill kündigt sein neues Album DEAR ILLUSION für den 11.11. an. Erste Single “Everything You Got” ist bereits verfügbar. (No Label Records / Alive).

Der gefeierte Singer-Songwriter feiert mit dieser Veröffentlichung sein 25-jähriges Bestehen als Künstler. Das Album, an dem er drei Jahre gearbeitet hat, ist zweifellos ein Schritt nach vorne für den Künstler, sowohl in Bezug auf Reife und Ausführung als auch auf seine bisher beste Produktion. Sein neues Album Dear Illusion wird am Freitag, den 11. November 2022, weltweit über No Label Records (Alive) veröffentlicht. Das Album ist weltweit unter https://ffm.to/dearillusion erhältlich.
In den letzten zehn Jahren als Ein-Mann-Band bekannt, teilt sich der Multi-Instrumentalist auf Dear Illusion das Rampenlicht mit einer Bläsergruppe, The Devil Horns, sowie dem siebenfachen UK Blues Awards Drummer of the Year, Wayne Proctor (A.A. Williams, Oli Brown, King King, Ben Poole). Proctor mischte und masterte auch die neue Platte.
"Ich hatte eine Version fertig, kurz bevor die Pandemie ausbrach", sagt Steve. "Sie sollte im April 2020 veröffentlicht werden. Es hatte keinen Sinn, es zu diesem Zeitpunkt zu veröffentlichen, also beschloss ich zu warten. Der traurige Kontext der Pandemie hat mir zusätzliche Zeit verschafft, um meinen Fans das Album zu bieten, von dem ich sicher bin, dass es ihre Erwartungen zu meinem 25-jährigen Jubiläum als Künstler erfüllen wird. Ich bin stolz auf dieses Werk.
Die Ergebnisse, die wir gemeinsam mit dem Album erreicht haben, spiegeln sowohl Reife als auch Selbstreflexion wider. Insgesamt habe ich das Gefühl, dass das Album aussagt, dass man, egal was passiert, alles geben und weitermachen sollte, der beste Mensch sein sollte, der man sein kann, und dass, egal was passiert, die Sonne wieder aufgehen wird. Halte dich nicht mit dem Leid auf, aber vergiss es auch nicht. Behandeln Sie das Unglück sogar als Freund, klopfen Sie ihm auf die Schulter und sagen Sie: "Danke, dass ich daraus gelernt habe."

This one is a mash-up of styles and recordings as the verses were recorded in France and the rest of the song comes from a version I recorded at home. Lots of unique styles are mixed together. One of three songs played as a one-man band on the album, with two different horn sections from two continents!
Keep It Together

Wrote the music on harmonica, which doesnʼt happen often. I hate to explain or analyse my songs but this one, to me, now sounds like it is about Covid and trying to deal with it and the aftermath. The way it was written is another story. I asked my friend and writing partner Johnny Pilgrim to send me synonyms of Feeling Good. He sent a bunch, and I made the verses out of those and came up with the rest of the song the very same day, as I was recording the demo. I had no idea what it was about at the time. The vocal on the album was recorded on that day, as well as the harmonica, guitars, and bass.

Just a positive song. You get what you give. Simple message but always true and you can never hear it too often. I like that it has a lot of riffs even before the vocals kick in. Killer groove by Wayne Proctor on this one. There are two different guitars exchanging lines in the solo, a 55 Les Paul Jr and my old 66 Tele.
Dear Illusion

I'd had the verse’s melody and chords for a while when I finally wrote that one, with the help of my long-time lyric collaborator Joshua Parlett. I was heartbroken like never before when we wrote it, and it came easily. Itʼs about realising that the person you are in love with is not what she was pretending to be and coming up with the terms that you were in love with an illusion, as this person never really existed.
Steal The Light From You (Bigger Star)

Written when I came back from California in 2016 and started out as an acoustic number that was supposed to go with the rest of the songs that became the album that came out last, Desert Trip. Recorded many aborted versions through the years until this one. It has a different feel from what Iʼm used to do and a cool retro vibe.
Donʼt Let The Truth Get In The Way (Of a Good Story)

Wrote that one after Trump grabbed power and we were suddenly faced with the concept of abstract truth. It also deals with social media addiction, and the notion that there must be an absolute truth.
Follow Your Heart

I came up with the music after being invited to a Christmas concert with the choir in which my mom sings! I canʼt remember which song I nicked the chords from, but we played it that night. I worked on it for a while and abandoned it for three years. I was looking for an extra track for the album and went through my stuff to find it. It needed better drumming. I decided to ask Wayne Proctor, who I met many times over the past ten years, most notably when I toured the UK opening for King King in 2018. He did such an excellent job that he ended up playing on six songs as well as mixing and mastering the album. Nice heartfelt lyrics from my old friend Johnny Pilgrim.
She Gives Lessons In Blues

This one is kind of a follow up to Emily, from Solo Recordings Volume 3. Not written about the same person but who cares? It seemed to make sense to me at the time and that name sounded better than the other options I tried! Based on a true story. Another one played as a one-man band (with overdubbed lead guitar and horns).

I don’t often write on piano, but it always sounds a bit different from when I do it on guitar. I'm incredibly happy with how this one turned out. Harmonically different, even though it's still just a variation of the old I-IV-V and I like that. I love finding new ways to play the same old chords! Different guitar sounds on this one too, as I'm using a guitar with an integrated preamp, a copy of Jerry Garciaʼs Tiger guitar.

STEVE HILL - BIOGRAPHIE
Steve Hill gilt als einer der produktivsten Gitarristen Kanadas und hat immer wieder äußerst ambitionierte Auftritte und Alben vorgelegt. Der Gitarrist, Sänger, Schlagzeuger, Mundharmonikaspieler, Songschreiber und Produzent ist eine musikalische Kraft, mit der man rechnen muss.
Abgesehen davon, dass Steve einen Juno-Award gewonnen hat, Konzerte mit Kent Nagano und dem Montreal Symphonic Orchestra gespielt hat, genug Blues-Awards gewonnen hat, um eine Badewanne zu füllen, und in seiner 30-jährigen Karriere auf zu vielen Bühnen gestanden hat, um sie zu zählen, weiß man, wenn man aufhört und anfängt, seine Musik zu hören, dass man es mit einem echten Profi zu tun hat.
Bereits im Alter von 16 Jahren spielte Steve in Bars und wurde zwei Jahre später Profi, als er sich der Bob Harrison Blues Band anschloss. Er verließ sie nach zwei Jahren, um eine Solokarriere zu starten. Sein erstes Album wurde 1997 veröffentlicht und führte dazu, dass das Real Blues Magazine verkündete: "Steve Hill ist meiner Meinung nach der beste junge Blues-Gitarrist der heutigen nordamerikanischen Szene".
In den folgenden fünfzehn Jahren tourte er durch Kanada und Europa und veröffentlichte Alben in verschiedenen Besetzungen, bis er 2012 zu einer Ein-Mann-Band wurde. Nach dem Erfolg seines JUNO-nominierten Solo Recordings Volume 1, das 2013 auch bei der International Blues Challenge gewann, wurde Solo Recordings Volume 2 mit dem Juno Award und 7 Maple Blues Awards in den Jahren 2014-2015 ausgezeichnet. Es folgte Solo Recordings Volume 3 im Jahr 2016, das bis heute fast sechs Millionen Streams auf Spotify verzeichnete.
2018 veröffentlichte er The One- Man Blues Rock Band. Das Live-Album zeigt einen Künstler auf dem Höhepunkt seines Könnens. Es ist keine Überraschung, dass die Montreal Gazette Steve Hill als "den fiesesten Gitarristen Kanadas" bezeichnet hat.
Als Gitarrist mit einem breit gefächerten musikalischen Vokabular hat er über 2.500 Konzerte in vielen Konfigurationen gegeben. In den letzten 10 Jahren hat er ausgedehnte Tourneen durch Kanada und Europa unternommen und dabei seine von der Kritik hochgelobte Solo Recordings-Albumtrilogie und seine One-Man-Band-Show unterstützt.
Wenn es um Ein-Mann-Bands geht, gibt es für Steve Hill keine Grenzen. Alles ist möglich. Er ist der wahre Vertreter einer Ein-Mann-Band. Steve tritt im Stehen auf, während er singt und Gitarre spielt, seine Füße spielen die Bassdrum, die Snare Drum und mit einem Drumstick, der mit dem Kopf seiner treuen Gitarre verbunden ist, schlägt er die Hi-Hats und ein Becken. Das führende deutsche Gitarrenmagazin bezeichnete Steve als "die spektakulärste Ein-Mann-Band Mann-Band auf dem Planeten".
Im Laufe der Jahre hat er die Bühne mit vielen seiner Helden geteilt, darunter Ray Charles, B.B. King, Hubert Sumlin, Jimmie Vaughan und ZZ Top, um nur einige zu nennen, und er hat auf einigen der größten Musikfestivals Kanadas gespielt. Auf seinen zwölf Alben mit eigenen Songs hat er alles erkundet, von Rock, Country, Folk, Metal und Jazz, und dies alles mit seiner ersten Liebe, dem Blues, verbunden.
