Als Gründungsmitglied und Hauptsongwriter von The Pineapple Thief hat Bruce Soord das letzte Jahrzehnt damit verbracht, seinen Stil stetig zu verfeinern, der emotionale Direktheit mit musikalischer Zurückhaltung verbindet. Sein neuestes Soloalbum „Ghosts In The Park“, das am 15. Mai erscheint, ist sein bisher persönlichstes und unverblümtestes Werk: ein Album, geprägt von Verlust, Erinnerung und den stillen Momenten, die sich offenbaren, wenn das Leben weitergeht, während alles andere stillzustehen scheint.

Heute hat Bruce die zweiten Track des Albums, „Meet Me On The Downs“, zusammen mit einem neuen Video veröffentlicht, das von George Laycock @ Blacktide Productions produziert wurde.

"Ich schrieb dies in einem Hotelzimmer in Hamburg während einer Tournee mit The Pineapple Thief. Die Worte kamen später. Ich erinnere mich, wie ich über den Verlust meines Vaters schrieb, während ich seine alte Altersruhesitzwohnung ausräumte. „Die Stille im Auto“, als ich dort saß und den Ort betrachtete, den ich nur mit ihm kannte. Ich öffnete die Tür und sah all seine Kleidung und Fotos … „Ein ganzes Leben, verstreut zwischen den Kleidern.“ Ich ging zurück in mein Studio, fest entschlossen, aus dem Verlust etwas Positives zu schaffen. Also schloss ich die Augen und schrieb die frühesten Erinnerungen auf, die mir einfielen, nicht die schwierigen, schmerzhaften aus seinen letzten Jahren. Diese Worte bildeten die zweite Hälfte des Liedes. Im Grunde ist es also einfach ein Lied über das Leben und kostbare Erinnerungen". – Bruce Soord

Acoustic guitar sits at the centre of the record, often captured in raw, first-take performances recorded directly in hotel rooms before being carefully integrated with studio recordings. This tension between fragility and control defines the album’s sound. Tracks such as “Concepción,” “Meet Me On The Downs,” and the title piece were conceived in specific places - Chile, Hamburg, Oberhausen - each location leaving a subtle imprint on the music. Parks, harbours, and anonymous rooms become recurring settings where past and present coexist, intersected by fleeting moments of clarity amongst the disorder.

Performed almost entirely by Soord himself, with bass contributions from Jon Sykes on “Kept Me Thinking,” the album was recorded using a combination of hotel-room captures and studio sessions, preserving the immediacy of its origins. Mastered by Steve Kitch, Ghosts In The Park stands as a stark, reflective and evolutionary companion piece to Soord’s acclaimed previous solo work.
