Built on the raw power of Pagan Metal and reinforced by elements of Death, Viking and classic Heavy Metal, “Urgewalt” pushes the Asenblut sound further while staying true to the foundations that have defined the band since their formation. Crushing guitar riffs, relentless rhythms, powerful choirs and memorable melodies come together in a collection of songs that balances uncompromising heaviness with epic songwriting.
The new single “Barbaren und Legionen” (featuring Victorius) is a prime example of this approach. Combining driving riffs, forceful vocals and an anthemic chorus, the track captures the raw energy that has become a trademark of Asenblut while reflecting the band's renewed musical direction.
Lyrically, “Urgewalt” draws from a world of Norse mythology, ancient legends, warriors, battles and the forces of nature. The album moves between stories of gods and Ragnarök, dark rituals, brotherhood and betrayal, as well as visions of distant worlds shaped by war, fanaticism and chaos. Ancient traditions meet a distinctly modern sense of heaviness, creating an atmosphere that is both mythical and immediate.
At the heart of the album is the recurring theme of strength through unity. Brotherhood, loyalty and standing together in the face of adversity remain central to the Asenblut identity. These themes run through the band's lyrics as well as their music, connecting epic tales of gods and warriors with more universal ideas of resilience, trust and determination.
Over the years, Asenblut have established themselves as a distinctive force within the Pagan Metal scene, combining aggressive riffs, epic melodies and powerful storytelling with energetic live performances. “Urgewalt” builds on that foundation while presenting a band that sounds more direct, more forceful and more uncompromising than ever.
The album’s release also comes as Asenblut hit the road for a series of shows across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with the current tour running through September 27.
