Swedish metal veterans Crystal Eyes are back with “Thunder God” , their ninth studio album, set for release on October 30 via Massacre Records.
The new record is a perfect blend of classic heavy and power metal, and the melodic, epic and riff-driven elements that have band’s sound for more than three decades.

That’s what band’s founder, Mikael Dahl says about the song:
The lyrics were originally inspired by a vision of humanity leaving Earth after its destruction and searching for a new home among the stars. At the same time, the song carries a second meaning: defending and preserving the legacy of heavy metal itself. Musically, it is a classic marching heavy metal anthem in the tradition of Judas Priest and Accept, complete with a fist-raising chorus built for audience participation.
Founded in 1992 by mastermind Mikael Dahl, Crystal Eyes have always stayed true to the roots of traditional heavy metal. Rather than chasing current trends, the band have built their sound around memorable guitar riffs, strong vocal melodies and a clear affection for the genre’s classic era. “Thunder God” follows that formula across nine new tracks, with plenty of room for both straight-ahead heavy metal and the more melodic side of Crystal Eyes.
Dahl once again handles the vocals and guitars, the production was completed at Studio Fredman, with Fredrik Nordström responsible for the mix and mastering. The artwork comes from Hungarian artist Gyula Havancsák.
For Crystal Eyes “Thunder God” is less about reinventing their sound than about continuing to develop what they have always done best: traditional, melody-driven metal with a strong sense of identity and an unmistakable Scandinavian character.

We knew it would be a challenge to follow up “Starbourne Traveler”, an album that many fans and critics consider our strongest release to date. With Thunder God, our goal was clear from the very beginning: to raise the bar once again and create an album filled with songs that feel timeless.
The songwriting process was focused on strong melodies, memorable choruses, and powerful hooks. We wanted every track to have its own identity while contributing to a complete album experience. The ambition was to create a record with the consistency and impact of a greatest hits collection, where every song earns its place and nothing feels like filler.
Although I write all the songs, the entire band was deeply involved in the arrangements and production process. Together, we worked hard to refine every detail, making the songs as focused, powerful, and effective as possible without unnecessary detours.
Musically, we have stayed true to the path Crystal Eyes has followed since the band's formation 34 years ago. The spirit and legacy of classic heavy metal bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, Black Sabbath, Helloween, and Running Wild continue to inspire us, and Thunder God is our tribute to that timeless tradition.
To capture an authentic old-school 1980s heavy metal sound, we used vintage Marshall amplifiers, cabinets, and guitar pedals that are more than 40 years old. The result is a warm, organic, and powerful guitar tone that perfectly complements the music.
For mixing and mastering, we once again teamed up with Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman, a collaboration that has now lasted for more than 20 years. Fredrik has given Thunder God a massive, thunderous sound that delivers both power and clarity.
We are incredibly proud of this album and believe it represents Crystal Eyes at our very best. Thunder God is a celebration of everything we love about heavy metal—melody, power, passion, and unforgettable songs. Turn it up loud!

1. Whirlwind Of Doom
The opening track served as the inspiration for both the album title, Thunder God, and the cover artwork. The lyrics are inspired by Norse mythology and depict Thor's battle against the giants as he protects gods and mankind from the destructive forces of chaos and nature. Musically, it's a fast and furious heavy metal anthem packed with classic Crystal Eyes trademarks: thunderous double bass drumming, twin guitar harmonies, blazing solos, and sky-high screams. Fans may recognize influences from bands such as Manowar, U.D.O., and Riot.
2. We Came, We Saw, We Conquered
A tale of an unstoppable army marching across the world, destroying everything in its path. This song feels like a natural continuation of Side by Side and delivers everything that defines the Crystal Eyes sound. The spirit of Running Wild and Manowar shines through in both the music and the triumphant atmosphere.
3. Kids of Rock 'n' Roll
Although the song was inspired by my own teenage dream of becoming a guitarist and playing in a band like my heroes, the lyrics carry a broader message. "The kids of rock 'n' roll" represent everyone who refuses to give up on their dreams, no matter how difficult life becomes or how many obstacles stand in their way. It's a song about outsiders, believers, and those who choose their own path instead of following the crowd. Musically, it's a classic hard rock anthem that could easily have come straight out of the golden era of the 1980s. The chorus appeared almost instantly, and from the moment it was written I felt it had something special. With influences from bands such as Saxon, Def Leppard, and Twisted Sister, combined with a huge sing-along chorus and uplifting energy, it captures the spirit that made many of us fall in love with rock music in the first place. I can easily imagine this becoming a future live favourite.
4. The Battle Will Be Won
Another battle hymn about standing united and fighting together no matter the odds. Iron Maiden has been one of my favourite bands since 1982 and has influenced both my songwriting and Crystal Eyes from the very beginning. Galloping rhythms, guitar harmonies, soaring melodic solos, and an arena-sized chorus proudly carry that tradition forward. There is also a touch of Dio's spirit throughout the song.
5. Remembrance
This song honours the memory and legacy of Ronnie James Dio, Gary Moore, Ozzy Osbourne, and all the other legends whose voices and music will live forever. It is our way of saying thank you for the music and inspiration they gave us. References to these heroes can be found throughout both the lyrics and the music, and listeners may discover a few familiar touches along the way. The song was already half-finished when the news of Ozzy's passing reached us. After spending two weeks listening almost exclusively to his music, I wrote the acoustic middle section as a personal tribute to the Prince of Darkness. The result is an epic and timeless piece inspired by classics such as Heaven and Hell and Mr. Crowley, combining atmosphere, emotion, and classic heavy metal grandeur.
6. Follow the Storm
A song about leaving everything behind and following your own path in life. It is the fastest track on the album and brings back memories of the early years of Crystal Eyes. I've always loved the speed, energy, and melodies of German metal bands such as Helloween, Gamma Ray, Running Wild, Rage, Heaven’s Gate, Scanner, and Blind Guardian. Their influence can be heard throughout this high-speed metal assault.
7. Shadows of the Night
This song explores one of humanity's oldest questions: what is the meaning of life, and what is our purpose here on Earth? While the lyrics are dark and reflective, the music itself is uplifting and energetic. Influences from Pretty Maids, Iron Maiden, Gary Moore, and Running Wild can be heard throughout. The sing-along melody in the outro is actually based on an idea from a song I wrote nearly 40 years ago.

9. A Silent Farewell
The closing ballad is the most emotional and personal song I have ever written. It is dedicated to my mother, who has been living in a dementia care home for more than three years. She can no longer walk or speak, and she no longer remembers me, my brothers, or my daughter. I cannot imagine what her world looks like today, but I tried to express those thoughts and emotions through the lyrics. It is a heartbreaking situation, and while it is painful to admit, I sometimes hope her suffering will not last much longer because this is no longer the life she once knew. My brother and my daughter joined me in recording the chorus, and there were many tears during those sessions. It is a beautiful song, but at this point it is still difficult for me to listen to. My mother always believed in me and supported my dreams from the very beginning. I owe her more than words can express.
